Abstract

In recent times, attention has been drawn to the dilemma due to the contamination of aquatic medium by heavy metals like nickel. Ni(II) contamination is commonly compared to other forms. The associated adverse effects strongly influenced human health. In addition to environmental risk associated with the discharge of Ni, Ni has relatively high prices. Keeping the above in mind, the recycling of Ni has become an eye-catching choice for the recovery and reuse of metal by limiting its environmental risks. The inadequate assortment of technologies in technique, cost, sustainability, and efficiency for the removal of Ni is intricate. This chapter summarizes various removal technologies developed and used so far to remove Ni from wastewater. The chapter also focuses on the sources, toxicity, and chemistry of Ni. We have also discussed the recent advances in combination/integration of natural or biological processes along with other prevailing approaches that have a great chance for Ni removal and treatment in a sustainable and eco-friendly way.
