Abstract
All aspects of life are currently affected by various digital technologies that dictate the pace at which the world evolves. It is observed that the ever-evolving digital landscape is a current force that necessitates a transformation from traditional methods of practice to embrace new innovations and models that align with the current characteristics of the Industry 4.0 era. The business environment is not immune to this dynamic, as business models need to adapt to the new advanced digital tools if they are to stay relevant and experience growth, competitiveness, and sustainability. The current chapter interrogates the relevance and applicability of Industry 4.0 business models to the contemporary business landscape. The emphasis is on the impact of Industry 4.0 technologies on current business models. With evolving digital tools such as artificial intelligence (AI), the metaverse, Internet of Things (IoT), big data analytics, and robotics, there is a high call for redefining traditional business models as an ultimate solution for the progress and sustainability of economies. Through detailed case studies and industry examples, the chapter illustrates how businesses are leveraging Industry 4.0 to develop agile, data-driven business models that respond to market demands with unprecedented speed and precision. The chapter defines the strategic modifications that are crucial for the adoption of these technologies.
