Abstract

Gate-dependent Josephson inductance of a superconducting single-electron transistor (SET) for radio-frequency electrometry was investigated by using a sensitive method. In an operation mode, charge sensitivity was obtained that took the advantage of the Josephson potential and was limited by a preamplifier. The method used was found to have more than 2 orders of magnitude lower dissipation that the conventional method of radio-frequency electrometry. The uncoupled charge sensitivity was expected to be less than a certain limiting factor.
