Abstract
Water infrastructure maintenance is a challenge for authorities managing these assets due to a large asset base and limited financial resources. Traditional condition assessment techniques used to inform maintenance often rely on visual assessments. The shortcoming of this technique is inconsistencies in decisions which adds to the complexity of maintenance prioritisation. A literature review on innovative technologies revealed several technological developments that can enhance asset condition assessments. Integrating these systems with existing engineering practices improves how condition and performance data are acquired and processed to improve asset lifecycle management. System architecture design for such systems assists with identifying technologies required. It ensures a fit-for-purpose technology system is procured that aligns with the organisation's strategy.
