Abstract

The European Commission (EC) announced a “Green Deal” for Europe in December, 2019. The Green Deal is a scheme of policies targeted towards the European Union (EU)’s climate agenda. It is on this premise that the EC has started to reform strategies and develop new legislative proposals. Some of the advantages anticipated from the Green Deal Strategies include; overall well-being of its citizenry and that of its future generations via the provision of clean water, air, soil, and ensured biodiversity; job security; availability of healthy and inexpensive food; supply of durable products that are repairable, recyclable, and reusable; provision of eco-friendly and modern technological innovations; energy-efficient public transport; environment-friendly buildings and a buoyant, flexible and internationally competitive industry. To this end, executing the production, transport, and use of phosphorus raw materials in a sustainable manner is one critical way of ensuring the world's transition to a green and circular economy.
