N2 - The Russia-Ukraine conflict has drastically damaged numerous global economic sectors. The ability of the African continent to successfully lower its high levels of poverty has been reduced as a result. Any progress made in the battle against poverty worldwide has been undone by the conflict and is still being made. This book chapter evaluated how the conflict between Russia and Ukraine affected efforts to combat poverty in Africa. This book chapter used a qualitative approach applied. The implications of conflict for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 1 have been uncovered through document analysis. The findings demonstrated that the crisis in Ukraine exposes African economies to high levels of inequality, supply chain disruptions, and food poverty. As a result, attainment of SDG 1 in Africa may not be achieved by 2030. In addition, it was found that the war in Ukraine has interrupted the African supply chain, making people there even more vulnerable to extreme poverty. Finally, it was recognized that the war is having an impact on small- and medium-sized businesses in Africa, which affects many people’s employment chances. In addressing the repercussions of the war, regional organizations like the African Union and the Southern African Development Community, among others, play a critical role.
