N2 - Delivering business optimization via systems requires integration of the enterprise and manufacturing systems. Manufacturing Operation Management (MOM) Systems bridge the gap between plant systems and Enterprise Resources Planning Systems. Traditional MOM consists of a set of standalone applications that are living in silos with minimum interaction. This causes functional replication and overlap among the MOM applications, which usually lead to minimizing the full utilization of these applications. This paper describes the philosophy of the Role-Based Decision Support System (RB-DSS). This research details the process of knowledge modeling, which is based on the ISA-95 functional decomposition, extending ISA-95 into the implementation of workflow applications to execute and coordinate operations tasks and streamline plant operations with ever-changing supply chain processes. The last aspect of this research focuses on demonstrating the benefits of applying the RB-DSS together with changes to traditional MOM operations by providing standard role-based execution templates.
