title = "Impact of coal composition on pyrometallurgical processes",
abstract = "Pyrometallurgy being a field of metallurgy where metals are produced using high temperatures a focus on slag quality to improve the recovery of the targeted metal. Amongst different properties required of the slag is its composition. Different sources of heat and reductants are used. Coal has been used either as a source of heat or a reductant. Depending on the place of origin of coal, its composition varies thus having an impact on the quality of slag produced, therefore on the metal. In the present paper, a comparative study on the use of different types of coals in pyrometallurgy has been conducted and their impacts not on the processes established. A copper slag has been used for the experiments. Different coals have been used in the reduction of copper slag and the decomposition of phases present in subsequent slags have shown different compositions and the impact on copper recoveries. XRD, XRF and SEM-EDS have been used for the characterization of slags and metals produced.",
