Abstract

This chapter emphasizes the long-standing dominance of Western scholarship in media and communication studies and examines IAMCR’s role in helping to advance and preserve African media and communication scholarship. Arguing that historically informed perspectives continue to “other” Africans in ways that replicate and perpetuate African marginalizations, the authors seek to reimagine IAMCR-Africa relations through an ubuntu-centered approach to building a truly international media and communication association.
