Abstract

The retrograde orthoamphibole isograd in the southern marginal zone of the Limpopo belt is expressed in Mg-rich pelitic gneisses by two hydration reactions that are superimposed on earlier corona textures of cordierite and hypersthene after garnet: hypersthene + quartz + H2O = anthophyllite, and cordierite + H2O = gedrite + kyanite + quartz. The T of hydration at the isograd is estimated at <625-650oC with a minimum P of 6 kbar.-J.A.Z.
