Abstract

This article reports on the surface integrity of gears finished by hybrid processes. The scope is focused on conical gears mainly. The report starts with an introduction to conventional gear finishing processes, their limitations and then considers hybrid gear finishing processes. Details on previous research conducted on hybrid finishing of conical gears and the induced surface integrity are presented and followed by outlook and selected avenues for possible future research. This article aims to summarize the scattered research on hybrid finishing induced surface integrity of conical gears with an aim to encourage sincere future efforts towards establishing these technologies as precision gear finishing processes.
