Abstract
This book aims to critically interrogate the notion of transformation in higher education (HE), focusing on epistemological and structural issues in post-colonial, post-Apartheid, and contemporary South Africa. The notion of transformation is pivotal in addressing the deep-rooted structural issues and epistemological challenges. Here, transformation is understood as a purposeful and evolutionary process that entails a significant alteration of systems to achieve improved states. Such changes are not merely incremental but represent fundamental shifts in mindset and practice. This chapter maps out the key conceptual markers of the book and draws attention to the main themes explored in the chapters that follow.
