Abstract

Biomaterials offer a promising solution for reducing the fire hazards of different materials. These materials are derived from natural sources, which makes them renewable, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly. They also have unique properties that can enhance the fire resistance of polymers, such as surface modification, thermal stability, flame retardancy, and smoke suppression. However, there are still many challenges and opportunities for improving the performance and application of biomaterials as fire retardants for various materials. This chapter provides an overview of the current research, issues, and future directions of biomaterials as fire retardants for different materials.
