Abstract
This study examines the significant growth in rubber materials and technology from 2000 to 2023, focusing on various rubber types and their applications across diverse sectors. Over the past twodecades, global consumption of natural and synthetic rubber has increased significantly, driven by rapid industrialization in countries such as China and India, and steady growth in established markets like the United States, Japan, and Germany. This chapter underscores the rising demand for rubber, which saw China's consumption grow from 3.5 million metric tons (MMT) in 2000 to 12.5 MMT in 2023, reflecting its substantial role in industrial and consumer applications. Natural and synthetic rubber consumption collectively surged from 16.7 MMT to 30.1 MMT, driven by increased demand in automotive, industrial, and consumer goods sectors. Global rubber production mirrored this trend, climbing from 17.7 MMT to 30.2 MMT, despite economic downturns and the COVID-19 pandemic. Projections for the rubber market suggest substantial growth from USD 46.61 billion in 2023 to USD 109.75 billion by 2032, supported by advancements in rubber materials and technology, rising consumer demand, and expanding industrial applications. Leading consumption markets include China, the United States, India, Japan, and Germany, with China exhibiting the most significant increase due to rapid industrialization. The study highlights a robust and expanding future for rubber materials, underscoring their critical role in global economic growth and technological advancement.
