Frequency Control Studies of Hydro System using AI Applications

Abstract

The frequency limitation is crucial for the power system as it shows the economical matching between the energy generations with power demand. This aim becomes difficult to achieve especially when electrical energy is generated via means of hydro sources. The technical reason is hydro turbines answering time to load variation is high. However, as the future energy goals have shifted to cleaner and emission free sources and that is why hydro power cannot be neglected and they can play a major role in fulfilling the power needs of the modern society. This research work is aim to study and design various control designs for an interlinked hydro systems in order to manage the load frequency control (LFC) activities of the interlinked hydro system. The study includes the modelling as well as designs of Z-N tuned PID, manual PID and their performance analysis. At last, the new and strong JAYA optimization technique is developed and tested to develop a new and strong PID i.e., JAYA-PID for hydro systems. The performance analysis of all designs are shown numerically and graphically to show the benefits of JAYA-PID over other designs.
