Fostering Global Citizenship Among Nursing Students in Institutions of Higher Education

The landscape of nursing education has undergone a profound transformation, shifting from traditional classroom instruction to digital learning strategies, largely accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. In an increasingly interconnected world, the need for nursing professionals who can provide compassionate, culturally competent care across diverse populations is more pressing than ever. Global citizenship, which encompasses the values, knowledge, and skills necessary for nurses to engage effectively in the global community, plays a critical role in addressing health challenges that transcend national boundaries. However, many nursing students enter the profession with limited awareness of societal injustices and cultural inequities, highlighting the need for increased emphasis on cultural awareness and global citizenship in nursing education. While institutions of higher education prioritize the development of global citizens, the approaches to integrating global citizenship into nursing curricula vary widely.
