Abstract

The field of ocular drug delivery has witnessed significant advancements over the years, driven by the pressing need to improve the efficacy and safety of ocular therapeutics. This chapter delves into the formulation and design concepts underpinning the diverse ocular drug delivery routes, including topical, transscleral, suprachoroidal, and more. Understanding the unique features and inherent barriers associated with each route is crucial for developing innovative solutions to address ocular diseases effectively. Thus, this chapter offers a comprehensive overview of the formulation and design principles essential for optimizing ocular drug delivery across various routes. By dissecting the features and barriers unique to each route, researchers and pharmaceutical scientists can harness this knowledge to develop next-generation ocular therapeutics, ultimately improving patient outcomes and quality of life.
