Abstract

Organisations are confronted with many challenges in human resources associated with designing motivation schemes to inspire workers to perform effectively, this is also compounded by the rapid change as a result of digitalization which requires employees to adapt to the new norm as the 21st century technologies take root. Rapid digitalization reshapes the way of doing business and the way employees render services to their organizations. In addition, this digitalization influences future applicants to the organisation as the skills of the 19th and 20th centuries are becoming obsolete and new skills of the digital age taking root. Developing sound motivational systems which meet the expectations of all employees is a colossal endeavour due to intricacies and dynamics of human beings. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate factors affecting employee motivation at an organization. The objective of this study was to ascertain factors affecting motivation at with the view of improving employee motivation in the context of the new digital age. This study employed a qualitative research method using focus group interviews as a primary means of data collection. Convenience non-probability sampling method was used to draw a size of 50 participants for the study.
