Abstract

The paper considers some possibilities of developing and adopting a ZigBee/RFID occupational safety smart system for protecting workers', pedestrians', and marine environment at the seaport perimeter with reference to the Port of Bar (Montenegro). The key features of RFID, ZigBee, and ZigBee/RFID systems are briefly considered. In addition, some simulation experiments in an OPNET environment over a ZigBee/RFID network at the physical layer are performed, while the corresponding conclusions are derived. Finally, some directions towards further research in the field are proposed.
