Abstract
If previous generations were to see the classrooms of today, one of the greatest differences they would notice is the diversity of the student population. Student diversity is a growing worldwide phenomenon (OECD, 2010) brought about by factors including immigration, a widening gap between rich and poor, greater acceptance of diverse expressions of gender and sexuality, and social movements such as inclusive education, which have advocated for the inclusion of disabled learners in mainstream school settings.
