Abstract
Inclusive education aims to ensure that an extensive range of students, including those vulnerable to exclusion are catered to by the extant educational system. Inclusivity also involves a curriculum that considers diversity, academic and social learning. Essentially, inclusive education ensures that every student is supported in their educational environment. South Africa has an inclusive education policy focused on ensuring that barricades negating access to learning by all individuals in the education system are addressed. However, certain challenges have been observed as bedevilling the implementation of inclusive education within the country context. These challenges range from the lack of skilled educators to the lack of funding opportunities in universities, and the resources needed to embrace diversity in higher education institutions across the country effectively. This paper seeks to articulate how African philosophies can support effective implementation of inclusive education in Higher Education. This chapter is based on conceptual arguments that unpack how African philosophies should be aligned with inclusive education to enhance the priorities on inclusive education within Higher Education Institutions. African Philosophies such as Ubuntu is suggested as a panacea towards improving the implementation of inclusivity in the higher education context.
