Abstract

This paper studies the inhibition efficiency of mild steel in 1 molar hydrochloric acid in the presence and absence of an inhibitor by means of potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The immersion time and temperature were 3 h and 25 °C, respectively. The inhibitor concentration was 25, 100, 300, 500 and 700 ppm, respectively. The results of the two analyses exhibited a maximum efficiency at 700 ppm concentration and a constant exposure time. The potentiodynamic polarization results demonstrated that the polymer composite assured both the anodic and cathodic protection of the mild steel. The electrochemistry equivalent circuit fitted around a simplified R1 + R2/Q2 circuit derived from the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data and the Randles equivalent cell.
