Abstract
This paper addresses the parameter estimation of a lumped counter-flow one plate heat exchanger. The empirical formulae of the heat transfer are included in the parameters to be estimated. The model is presented in state space form and the algorithm implemented utilizes the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) to jointly estimate the model parameters and states in one augmented vector. From the results obtained in this paper the EKF method is better than system identification techniques which use optimization of parameters against a score function from math libraries.
