Abstract
Shame manifests as a multifaceted and dynamic phenomenon that undergoes various transformations throughout the life cycle. On one hand, it functions as a culture-dependent regulatory mechanism and a tool for social influence. On the other hand, it opens up potentials for individual and collective processes of change. The present editorial provides a framework for orientation on the current state of research on shame development across the lifespan. It offers not only a systematic introduction to the main concerns and central themes of this book but also situates them within the contemporary research landscape on the topic of shame. Furthermore, it presents the contents of the individual chapters of this edited volume.
