Abstract
A team of five chairs from the South African Research Chairs Initiative is studying the challenges that children in developing countries face. They monitor children's well-being in South Africa using six indicators. Collecting data from all six domains is important, but paper-based systems are not ideal. Hence, the chairs formed a Communities of Practice with engineers to develop a digital tool for data collection and analysis. The financial implications are a concern, but the Communities of Practice brought all the necessary skills to ensure the success of this tool.
