Abstract

Dicarbonyl(η⁵-cyclopentadienyl)iron(II) η¹-complexes of carbohydrates are prepared by reaction of 2-deoxy-2-halosugars with sodium dicarbonyl(η⁵-cyclopentadienyl)ferrate via a single-electron-transfer mechanism. Evidence for the in situ conversion of these compounds into the corresponding thermo-labile dicarbonyl(η⁵-cyclopentadienyl)iron(II) η²-complexes, is presented.
