Abstract

Gmelina Arborea seed was developed and was employed as a cutting fluid in the turning of AISI 1045 steel at different spindle speed, feed rates, and cut depths, and the results were compared to mineral oil-based cutting fluid and dry machining conditions. The cutting temperatures using developed oil were the lowest among all ranges from 34.07°C to 36.33°C while those obtained when the developed dry machining were the highest temperature ranges from 34.13°C to 36.67°C. It was also collated that; dry machining had the highest surface roughness ranges from 0.249mm to 0.275mm, when the mineral oil used the surface roughness from 0.232 to 0.271 and when the produced Gmelina arborea seed oil was used, the surface roughness generated were the least, thus 0.226mm to 0.275mm. It was noted that the Gmelina Arborea seed oil produced the lowest cutting temperature and lowest surface roughness range for all the machined samples.
