Abstract
Titanium alloy was heat treated within the α + β phase and above the β transus temperature at different heating times. The heat treated alloy's corrosion resistance was studied in a 3.5% wt NaCl solution to depict the marine environment, using the open circuit potential, potentiodynamic analysis, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As observed in the SEM images, no visible pitting corrosion was observed in all samples irrespective of the heat treatment time and the microstructure. Samples heat treated just below the β transus temperature exhibited an excellent corrosion resistance. The data supplied within the article will provide helpful information in simulating the corrosion behavior of annealed Ti6Al4V alloy in a marine environment.
