Abstract

From a Measurement and Verification (M&V) perspective there is a continuous need to quantify impacts made by Demand Side Management initiatives, in this case the M&V of the South African Solar Water Heater (SWH) program. Currently, basic M&V SWH models are used to calculate the performance of SWHs in South Africa. A recognized SWH simulation software package could provide a more precise performance calculation, however, components based in these software packages are characterized to foreign standards. Hence the development of a method allowing for the South African SWH standard test results to be converted to these foreign standards. Thus providing the option of the use of an off the shelf SWH simulation software package, enhancing the M&V of Solar Water heaters in South Africa.
