Abstract
Tanzanite is one of the few minerals that can be cut into fine gemstones and that also occurs as collectorquality crystal specimens, yet it is restricted to one geological environment in one small geographic region on one continent: Africa. Because of tanzanite’s popularity and its value, there has been a somewhat conflicting history regarding when and by whom tanzanite was discovered. To date, tanzanite remains unique to Tanzania.
