Abstract
The discovery of nambulite at the Kombat mine in Namibia in 1975 raised the bar for this rare species. Originally described three years earlier from the type locality in Japan, Kombat was the second reported locality, but unlike the massive type-material, the Kombat mine nambulite crystals are extraordinary. The best crystals are bright vermilion, perhaps rivaled in color only by Broken Hill, Australia, rhodonite or proustite.
