Abstract

The chapter espoused the conceptual frameworkConceptual framework for the water, energy, and food (WEF) Nexus. The chapter established the philosophical paradigmsPhilosophical paradigms underpinning the book, elucidating Ontological and Epistemological philosophyEpistemological philosophy. In OntologicalOntological philosophy philosophical perspectives, the chapter explained the alignment of the book with objectivityObjectivityand constructivismConstructivism in establishing the reality of the three resources. Also, from the epistemological, and philosophical perspectives, the knowledge dimension and build-up of the book were established throughPositivismpositivismPositivism paradigm and interpretivism\Interpretivism paradigms. Moreover, the chapter provides empirical explanation and draws out various construct and indicators on eight (8) determinants for the management of the WEF NexusWEF nexus, which include Economic activitiesEconomic activities, Technological InnovationTechnological innovation, UrbanizationUrbanization, Ecosystem ServicesEcosystem services, Transportation InfrastructureTransportation infrastructure, Cleaner ProductionCleaner production, Value Chain analysisValue chain analysis, and Circular EconomyCircular economy. Furthermore, the chapter established sustainabilitySustainability as the outcome of WEF NexusWEF nexus by the eight (8) economic, social, and environmental determinants. The chapter ended with the need to understand the nature of the WEF Nexus and the type of the WEF NexusWEF nexus and determine the level of sustainabilitySustainability output.
