N2 - Fundamental basics of modulation techniques applied on inverter circuits for alternating current (AC) drives. This study is for a comparative analysis of modulation techniques applied on a single phase full-bridge inverter topology. Analysis is based on finding the best modulation technique with less harmonic content and high efficiency. Sinusoidal PWM, Hysteresis Current Control PWM and Modified PWM were implement using MATLAB/Simulink software. Waveform characteristics were analyzed based on their amplitude, frequency and Total Harmonic Distortion (THD). Bipolar inverter topology is used as a basic PWM generator on SPWM and MSPWM. MSPWM generated output waveforms for both current and voltage having low THD and its output waveforms for both current and voltage to be pure sinusoidal in shape. Therefore, this technique has been proved to be the best modulation techniques compared to SPWM and HCCPWM, having high values of THD and high switching losses resulting in poor efficiency and less reliable. Modulation index is another factor which plays a role in reduction of harmonic content from output waveform. Inverter switching losses have been discussed and ways to improve its performance.
