Abstract

This chapter follows the story of Lizzy Teffo and her experience of implementing a business intelligence (BI) system at the Chemical Industries Education and Training Authority (CHIETA) in South Africa. The case study primarily focuses on the challenges faced by CHIETA in addressing the rapidly changing demands of the skills market. It explores how BI can enhance skills forecasting, data analytics, and decision-making processes within the training authorities. The case study also highlights the importance of data-driven strategies in aligning training programs with the labor market's requirements and achieving long-term success in skills development initiatives. By implementing a BI system, CHIETA can enhance its capabilities in predicting future skill needs, improving the efficiency of funding allocation, and ultimately aligning skills training programs with the rapidly evolving demands of the labor market. The case study prompts students to think critically and develop recommendations to help CHIETA effectively leverage BI and address skills development and training challenges.
