Abstract

This chapter serves as a bridge between the two volumes of the Handbook of Emotions, integrating insights on individual emotional experiences from Volume 1 with the cultural and societal dimensions explored in Volume 2. It examines the evolutionary and developmental role of emotions, the interplay between technology and emotional processes, and the critical importance of resilience and antifragility in addressing modern challenges. Furthermore, it highlights the transcultural variations in emotional expression and their potential to enhance culturally sensitive cohesion. Ethical considerations and future directions for interdisciplinary research are also discussed, emphasising the transformative role of emotions in shaping adaptive and sustainable societal structures. This synthesis provides a comprehensive framework for understanding emotions in the context of technological, cultural, and social change.
