Abstract

1-([1-3H]-3,3-Dimethylallyl)-L-tryptophan and cyclo-L-alanyl-1-([1-3H]-3,3-dimethylallyl)-L-tryptophan h0ave been synthesised. Neither compound served as a precursor of echinulin in surface cultures of Aspergillus amstelodami. In parallel feeding experiments, DL-[2-14C]-mevalonic acid lactone and [methylene-14C]-L- tryptophan were efficiently incorporated into echinulin.
