Abstract

The chapter discusses the main aspects related to the bioremediation of heavy metals ions contaminated soil. The chapter is divided into four sections. The first section is dedicated to the influence of the presence of heavy metals in the soil on the biota system, its sources, limits, and actual levels. The description of natural bioremediation by soil microorganism both with its mechanism as well as a newly developed method for its removal of a load of heavy metals present in the soil with high efficiency and use on a larger scale is described in the second section. The third section discusses phytoremediation as a part of bioremediation. The application of plants is discussed both the plants used and the further utilization of biomass. Finally, the fourth section presents analytical aspects related to bioremediation.
