Abstract

This paper presents a detailed structure of home energy management system for residential customers who attempt to minimize their daily electricity expenditures by optimally scheduling the household loads in a dynamic pricing environment. The system is categorized into several assets including manageable, unmanageable, non-interruptible appliances, electric vehicle and energy storage system. The electric vehicle and energy storage system can further contribute to lower the consumer electricity payments with their capability to transfer energy bilaterally. The dynamic prices are superimposed with a power threshold to prevent the formation of new peaks in the least price intervals. Different simulation scenarios are conducted to analyze the effectiveness of the presented model in lessening the household electricity bill and boosting the load factor by considerably limiting the peak load.
