Abstract

CePdSb is one of the few compounds to show Kondo lattice behaviour and ferromagnetic order. Magnetometry and neutron diffraction show ferromagnetic order below 17.5 K. However heat capacity data show no anomaly at this temperature, but do show a rounded peak at 10 K. We have investigated the spin dynamics of CePdSb using both μSR and inelastic neutron scattering measurements. The μSR data show well defined signals well below Tc, with a progressive loss of asymmetry down to 10 K. The inelastic neutron scattering shows a spin wave excitation at low temperatures, but this collapses into a diffusive response at 10 K. This highly anomalous character of the spin dynamics provides insight into the behaviour of the thermal properties.
