An Investigation of the Potential Benefits of Gamification in the Nigerian Construction Industry

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter delves into the under-explored potential of gamification technology and augmented reality (AR) within the construction industry. While these technologies are widely adopted in other sectors, their use in construction remains limited. This research aims to bridge this gap by specifically assessing transformative potential of integrating gamification and AR for enhancing construction project performance. The study employs a survey approach, engaging experienced professionals in the Nigerian construction industry through close-ended questionnaires. Through empirical analysis, including mean item scores and exploratory factor analysis, the findings underscore the considerable potential of gamification and AR synergy to revolutionize the construction sector. Categorized into five major domains, including human capital development, improved intrinsic motivation, human resource management, productivity and decision-making, the study emphasizes the tangible benefits of this integration. By shedding light on these findings, the chapter contributes valuable insights for both research and practical applications within the architecture, engineering, construction and operation (AECO) industry, paving the way for enhanced productivity, sustainability and overall industry performance.
