Abstract

In this paper, the appropriate environment of the greenhouse was managed by the receding horizon control (RHC) to ensure the optimal growth of plants with reduced energy consumption. The conventionally fixed reference environment planned for the whole day is practice for a season or year, results in the higher energy consumption by actuators because of the considerable domination by external disturbances. Adaptive reference adjust the transitions between the day and night operations based on solar radiation. Results obtained with the adaptive reference were compared with the static reference under the same operating conditions and demonstrated considerable energy savings for an insignificant increment in computational burden.
