Abstract

Muon spin relaxation and rotation (μSR) spectroscopy was carried out on a polycrystalline sample of the Kondo insulator CeRhSb between 300 K and 14 mK. From 200 K down to ≈0.5 K the muon spin relaxation rate is temperature independent and fully dominated by the influence of the nuclear moments on Sb. This means that the electronic moment onCe fluctuates rapidly. The Knight shift shows similar features as the bulk susceptibility in the same temperature range. Below 0.5 K a distinct negative trend in the shift is observed coupled to an increase in muon spin relaxation rate. This most likely signals the onset of spin correlations. These are, however, weaker than those observed by μSR in CeNiSn, another Kondo insulator.
