Abstract
A genetic stratigraphic subdivision for the Vryheid Formation in the east Witbank Coalfield is described. A maximum thickness of 90m is present and five major coal seams are present. These seams are numbered from No. 1 at the base to No. 5 at the top of the succession. Three informal sequences comprising depositional events each defined by a progradational phase, a contemporaneous aggradational phase, and a transgressive phase constitute the 90 m thick stratigraphic succession. - from Authors
