Abstract

4IR brings additional demands on skills development. The workforce of the future will need to be adequately educated and trained to work with technologies that do not yet exist and to solve problems not known today. Education and training programmes need to respond to this challenge by enhancing people's capabilities for the utilisation of and collaboration with 4IR technology. Various regional and country specific skills development systems exist specifically to deliver skills within a context. The South African skills development system is driven by various structures, with the SETAs being central to the skills development strategy as a bridge between the demand for and supply of relevant skills.
