Abstract

Thermally stable silylene Si{1,2(NCH2tBu)2C 6H4} reacts with 1H-phosphirenes to give the first isolated 2,3-dihydro-1,3-phosphasiletes, a unique type of zwitterion, and 1,2-dihydro-1,2-phosphasiletes. The novel 2-phospha-4-silabicyclo[1.1.0]butane (see picture) is a reactive intermediate in the reaction, whose course can be tuned by changing the substituents.
